Tips for Painting Over Contrasting Colors

Contrasting colors or stains (nicotine, water marks) increase paint use. That is why the calculator has a hard-to-cover add-on.

Correct sequence

1. Remove loose paint; seal stains with a suitable isolating primer
2. Putty / local plaster if needed → dry → sand → dust
3. Pigmented or filled primer (clear sealer alone will not hide a strong contrast)
4. At least two finish coats; a third coat when needed

Manufacturer note

Light yellows and some whites naturally cover less well; a sample or extra coat may be required. Intercoat waits follow the label (often ~3 hours at 20°C for water-based). Keep conditions in the +5…+30°C range.

Cost

Extra coats and specialty primers add material and labor. The online add-on is an estimate; the firm amount is measured on inspection.
